She said Zanzibar is well known in cloves production but more efforts are needed to make it sustainable.
According to ZSTC since 2011/12 cloves production has been increasing at an average of 3,910 tonnes annually. Simultaneously prices have risen to 180 percent.
The corporation supports farmers by providing incentive schemes and packages to improve farm husbandry and managements. In 2012, 500,000 new clove seedlings were distributed to farmers while in 2013/14, the number doubled to 1,000,000.
